Norton DNS Protects You Against Malware Infection and Phishing

Norton-DNS-Phishing-Malware-Protection Public DNS services are becoming a dime a dozen these days. OpenDNS is still the market leader, but others giants like Google are determined to mount a challenge. Norton DNS is the newest player in this segment.

Norton is trying to sell its DNS product by focusing on security. Norton DNS leverages Norton Safe Web to block known phishing and malware sites. Norton SafeWeb is Norton’s take on WOT (Web of Trust). It rates sites based on how trustworthy they are expected to be.

It also supports automatic URL error correction. When you mistype a domain, Norton will try to guess what you meant and guide you to the correct destination.

While both of these features are reason enough to stop relying on your ISPs DNS servers, Norton still doesn’t offer anything OpenDNS doesn’t. OpenDNS uses PhishTank database to protect you against phishing attacks and also features malware site/botnet protection. Given Norton’s expertise, the only real benefit may be response time. But, I am just guessing.

You can enable Norton DNS by changing your DNS servers to 198.153.192.1 and 198.153.194.1. Click here, if you don’t know how to change your DNS servers.
