There are certain applications I just can’t do without. IrfanView, Opera, KMPlayer and Launchy all fall in this category. Having to re-install all the applications everytime I re-install the operating system can be really frustrating. One solution is to directly slipstream these applications using nLite or vLlite. While using nLite/vLite is relatively simple, it is still complicated enough to scare away most people. Ninite is a bulk installation utility which offers a viable alternative to installing dozens of applications manually.

Using Ninite is simple. Head over to their website and simply select the applications you wish to install. Ninite includes Web Browsers, Messaging, Media, Imaging, Documents, Anti-Virus, Runtimes, File Sharing, Other, Utilities, Compression and Developer Tools. The list is fairly comprehensive and most of my favourite applications are already present. Once you have made your selection, Ninite will generate a custom installer for you. The installer will automatically download and install the selected applications. Selected applications are installed with their default configurations. Any bundled crapware (such as browser toolbar) is automatically discarded.
My only grudge against Ninite is that it installed applications at the default Program Files location without asking me. It would have been nice if I had been asked the path to the root folder for all applications. Otherwise, Ninite works exactly as you would expect it to. Two thumbs up and highly recommended.
