YAPM is Not Just Another Process Manager

Windows provides a Process Manager (called Task Manager) out of the box. Although it’s more than sufficient for most people, advanced users will find it to be a bit too basic. SysInternals Process Explorer is probably the most popular Task Manager alternative. However, it may have an worthy competitor in YAPM. YAPM as you may have guessed stands for Yet Another (remote) Process Monitor.

YAPM’s interface looks stunning and definitely makes a great first impression. The Ribbon interface ensures that in spite of being packed with features YAPM doesn’t look cluttered and confusing. And in case you are not comfortable with the Ribbon UI you also have the option of using the old school Menu based UI.

YAPM is one of the most advanced Process Manager’s available. Here are just a few of its features:
Arrow Support for remote monitoring of processes.
Arrow Ability to set process affinity in a multi-core system (i.e. specify the Core that will be favoured by a Process).
Arrow Ability to trim a process’s working set and release unused RAM.
Arrow Includes a Process Viewer which offers extremely detailed information about each process.

Yet Another Process Monitor

Arrow Advanced Job management feature which permits the user to add some processes to a job and set limits which will affect all processes in that job.
Arrow Includes Module and thread management options.
Arrow Handle management (keys, files, semaphores…etc. opened by a process)
List of TCP/UDP connections opened
Arrow Advanced Windows management features (opacity, position, show, hide etc.)
Arrow Ability to detect the process associated to a window via simple drag and drop.
Arrow Ability to view and modify the privileges of processes.
Arrow Includes hex editor for viewing memory of processes.
Arrow Can monitor monitor all actions made by a specific process.
Arrow Can find Hidden Processes feature to detect basic hidden rootkits.

If that list seems crazy, believe me when I say that YAPM contains loads of other features. YAPM is not something every user will need or appreciate. But, it’s every advanced user’s dream utility.

Process Explorer needs a good rival. Anvir task manager free is pretty good (paid even better if you can catch it on Giveawayoftheday.com occasionally. This could be a nice competitor. Cool discovery Pallab.

Anvir is great. The option to delay startup items is really helpful on older computers.
