Actually, it gets worse. They do not send out an email reminder. Had they done that, I would have canceled but that is their mode of operation.

First, they ONLY accept PayPal subscription payments. Next, if you should forget or not realize it is a subscription, they get another payment from you. I had the nerve to dispute the $99.99 yearly subscription fee with PayPal. I advised PayPal that I had not received any reminder notice, etc. PayPal (rip off company that they are), sided with Boxed Art and since I was out the hundred bucks I decided to log in and download some templates. But when I did, they had deactivated my account. I contacted them to ask why my account was not working and they said that because I had disputed the payment with PayPal (remember, THEY WON), that my account was deactivated and further had the nerve to tell me that I could buy another subscription from them!

Be forewarned, BoxedArt.com owned by Big Resources, Inc. will NEVER refund you under any circumstances and they have all kind of CRAP in their TOS or EULA where they can just deactivate your account for any foolish reason.

I have no interest in the situation, but I have used BoxedArt myself, and they make their terms really clear. They don’t state that they send a warning email (even though I did receive one myself anyway), and I do not see how stating their terms, and then doing what they stated is mean. I wouldn’t respect a company that didn’t follow their own rules, and it seems BoxedArt follows its rules. I’m sure you were were fine with the rules at the time you signed up until later on you decided they didn’t suit you because you didn’t manage your own subscription (you can cancel it the same day you sign up – same as any paypal subscription) and decided to go and bad mouth their business because of it.

I’m confused, doesn’t BoxedArt spell out how to automatically renew, and how to not on their site?

3-8 Will my BoxedArt subscription renew automatically?
This will depend on how you set your subscription up when you join BoxedArt, however if you choose a renewing subscription, then this can be cancelled from recurring at any time. First, a credit card transaction will never automatically renew. However if you select a paypal subscription and would like to later cancel the subscription before it rebills, you can do so by following these instructions:

Simply log into paypal.com, and click on the “all activity” link. Next, from the drop down box labeled “show”, select “subscriptions”. Choose a large enough date range to back at least as far as your original purchase, and then click search. Once the search results appear, click on the subscription details, and then on the cancel button within the subscription details. That’s all you need to do to cancel your paypal subscription prior to your expiration date before it renews at the end of your term. If you have created a subscription that has renewed because it was not cancelled before the end of a term, then this cannot be refunded.

The term seem pretty clear to me…

Well, they just ripped me off…

It was never clear that when you join for a year’s membership THE SUBSCRIPTION AUTOMATICALLY RENEWS. There is no way to cancel your subscription on BoxedArt’s website… you apparently have to do this another way.

If you forget to do this before your 365 days are up, you won’t even get an email warning such as “you subscription is about to renew” a few days before they charge you… You’ll just get a “hey thanks for renewing” email out of nowhere! Gee, thanks for the warning guys. With the economy being what it is right now — people need a bit more control over their expenditures.

And if you kindly reply to their “thanks for the renewal” email, asking them to close your account and issue a refund for the charge you never knew was coming, you’ll get a big fat “NO”.

This site is useful for templates, but their customer service is crap and they WILL rip you off with their renewals.
