Microsoft Surface – Revolutionary
This is breaking news and believe me this is big. In a press statement released earlier today Microsoft unveiled a revolutionary new product called Microsoft Surface. Microsoft Surface is a combination of ground breaking software and hardware technology that will change the way we interact with digital content. Surface is a 30-inch display in a table-like form factor that’s easy for individuals or small groups to interact with in a way that feels familiar, just like in the real world. Surface can simultaneously recognize dozens and dozens of movements such as touch, gestures and actual unique objects that have identification tags similar to bar codes. Microsoft Surface eliminates the need for a mouse and a keyboard and allows users to directly interact through the screen.
But, touch screen has existed for a long time. You must be wondering, “What is so revolutionary about Microsoft Surface?”. Microsoft Surface features Multi-touch funtionality (which hasnt been seen in any product other than yet to be released Apple iPhone) and Multi-user experience. Thanks to Direct interaction you can interact with every object on your screen without mouse or keyboard. You can grab an object, push it away, rotate or resize it. But, its most revolutionary aspect is Object Recognition. Imagine the possibilities. Imagine creating digital paintings using a normal brush.
We have seen similar technologies before (remember Touchtable?). But, they have all been mere concepts or prototypes. This is the first time something like this is going to be produced on a large scale. The first companies to roll out Surface will be Harrahs Entertainment, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, T-Mobile USA and a distributor, International Game Technology. It’s expected to cost upto $10,000. This would put it out of reach for most home users. However, new technology is always expensive. The question is can this be succesfully implemented in Laptops and Desktop computers? Is this the future? What do you think?
